A devoted nature-lover, Dominic Dubois is Sustainability Director at Six Senses Crans-Montana.
Sustainable development lies at the core of our philosophy. On every level, we act to reduce our impact on the environment. From choosing suppliers to our methods of procurement, via opting for short-circuit supplies and waste management, each operation is approached from a sustainable viewpoint. The building was designed in the same way. For example, our heating system uses waste wood, and our rooms are equipped with smart technologies to reduce energy consumption when unoccupied.
Each one plays a vital role in this approach. After 3 days of total immersion, they benefit from training modules all year long. As volunteers, they can also participate in on-site activities such as waste collection, or plant picking in the mountains. My role is to give them all they need to become ambassadors for sustainable development in their turn, not just in the resort.
Our "Wellness Wednesdays" are very successful. By removing bins from our canteen on Wednesdays, we face together the reality of food waste every week. A simple but effective action with lots of impact.
As well as enjoying local products in our restaurants, they are invited to participate in workshops and conferences in our Earth Lab. Though by choosing to stay here, they are already committed to a responsible approach by helping to support the local community. In fact, 0.5% of the cost of their stay – and each type of expenditure – is devoted to social and environmental projects backed by the resort. Each gesture counts, even sipping a coffee!
